Photo a Day: July 23rd-30th

The last set of Photo a Day prompts for July were mirror, stranger, heart, sunshine, on the road, cup, last thing you bought, calm, and toothbrush. The only one I took on the correct date was one for calm, but at least half were taken within a few days of the prompts. I did decide to skip the last one.

23. Mirror

I didn’t take a picture on the 23rd in a mirror, and haven’t taken one in awhile. So, here’s one I took August 2nd of last year after I got my hair cut.

24. Stranger

I did take a picture of a letter from someone who is technically a stranger conditionally admitting me to graduate school on the 24th, but that doesn’t make a very interesting picture, so here is one I took of a stranger on Cocoa Beach on February 21st 2010.

25. Heart

I forgot about taking a picture of a heart for this day, so on the 30th I took a picture of the Germania bear my mom sent me since the tag is a heart.

26. Sunshine

I’m pretty sure it rained much of the day on the 26th. So, here’s a picture I took of the sunset on June 9th, across from the restaurant where we had our anniversary dinner.

27. On the Road

I wasn’t really on the road on the 27th, so here’s a picture from June 9th. This was my view out the passenger side as we drove along the Neckar.

28. Cup

I’d already taken pictures of flowers in a cup on the 26th, so rather than take another cup picture for the 28th I decided to share this one.

29. Last Thing You Bought

Technically the last thing I’d bought as of the 29th was a pair of jeans on eBay, but I’ll have to wait for it to arrive. Instead I took a picture on the 30th of the dual language German/English books I recently bought that arrived that day.

30. Calm

This is the only picture of this set that I actually took on the day of the prompt. I think it’s self-explanatory why this represents what was calm in my life this day.

That wraps up my photos for the Photo a Day July challenge. I will likely participate in the August challenge, but since I start graduate school classes toward the end of the month, I’m not sure if I’ll do it beyond that.

  1. Love your haircut on the first picture!
And the stranger picture is awesome!
A German teddy bear! That’s so cute! 🙂

  2. great Sunshine pic!

  3. The first picture is very interesting, did you also dye your hair?

I love the Germania bear! What’s the story behind that?

The picture a day posts have been so time-consuming, I can def understand how that would conflict with your grad school plans.

    • Thanks. I did, but it was after this picture was taken.

The bear is a teenie Beanie Baby, a miniature version of a Ty Beanie Baby. The original version of the bear was released in 1990 exclusively for Germany and was apparently the first to have the poem on it’s tag in a language other than English (the same poem which appears on this miniature version’s box): Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit/ist der Duetschen Einheitslied/Allen Kindern brav und fein/soll dieser Bär der liebste sein! (Unity and Justice and Freedom/is the song of German unity/All good little children/should love this bear the most!). For several years, Ty put out Teenie Beanies through McDonalds which were included in happy meals. This one was from 2000 and is listed as the 6th released that year, the 2nd of the International Bears II, which also included Osito (Mexico) and Spangle (USA). Out of curiosity I looked up the first set of International Bears which were Brittania (the UK), Erin (Ireland), Glory (USA), and Maple (Canada).

Yeah they definitely can be. I don’t know how much I’ll be able to post depending on the work load, and I still need to catch up on normal posts.

      • Wow! I had no idea! Cute bears! I must have missed that special going on with McDonalds because I’ve never seen the Teenie Beanies…

        • They did it yearly from 1996 to 2000 and have done it a couple times since. I got a few of them in the earlier years. Some people went crazy over them even getting in fights lol. This one is actually new-to-me as my mom sent it to me after I moved here. If you’re interested in getting one, I just checked Germania beanie on eBay and there are a few for under five dollars.

    • Thanks for looking into this! I might as well eBay it now! 🙂

  4. I know it is an old photo but I love your hair cut and enjoying looking at the fashing photos in your other post.

    • Thanks. I liked that haircut also. I wouldn’t get it done right now because I like the option to tie my hair back and that was too short too, but I’d do it that way again. Glad you enjoyed them 🙂
