A Look Ahead At 2014

happy new yearThis is the third time I’ve rung in the new year in Germany. Sometimes it doesn’t feel like like we’ve been here that long. Other times, it feels like we’ve been here longer. Time is weird like that, I guess. Every day has the same number of hours, and yet sometimes weeks seem to fly by while a single day can seem never-ending. The new year always seems like such a long time when I’m coming up with goals. (As you know by now if you’ve been following along, I have decided to do away with “resolutions” since my plans and priorities always seem to change). But then when I look back at the previous year, I wonder where all the time went.

So this year, I decided to do something a little different. Instead of coming up with goals for just one year, I decided to make a 101 in 1001 list: 101 things I want to do in 1001 days. So basically I’m trying to plan out goals for the next 2.74 years. Doing that has a funny way of making even a large undertaking seem like a small, manageable goal. For example, one goal was to try 100 new recipes, which sounds like a lot to me. But, a month in, I’ve already tried 8.

Yep, I actually started this list a month ago when I saw the list Toni made on One Chocolate Box. Since one of the things on the list was to move my blog over to self-hosted and then I ended up having to do that on December 2, I decided to just use that as my start date. That makes my end date August 16, 2016. No, I didn’t do the math on that. I used this calculator.

Although I’ve been working on it for a month, I still haven’t finished my list. As of today, I still need to come up with 13 more things, and I need to do a little reorganizing since I came up with goals that go with categories from earlier in the list, and I added a new category after the catch-all for goals that don’t fit in other categories. But since it’s New Year’s Day and all, I decided to post the work in progress as a page, and I’ll fix it up (and hopefully finish it) in the near future. I’ll also update it periodically with my progress as I finish goals.

The main categories of my goals are writing (other than blogging), blogging/vlogging, fitness, photography, reading, travel and exploration, giving back, and HitRECord. I also have a random category for things that don’t fit into the existing categories like making toys for my dogs, going canyoning, and setting my Etsy shop back up. It’s a pretty eclectic lists and some undertakings are going to be more difficult than others, but I’m really excited to tackle them.

Whether you’re making goals for the new year or beyond, you may want to head over to One Chocolate Box and The Crafty Practitioner and add a post to their link ups on new years resolutions. Happy New Year! Or, as they say here Prosit Neujahr!

  1. Hooray! You’ve got your list up. I’m going to go have a nosey 🙂 thanks for the mentions. As always you’re too good to me! I’m crossing my fingers you’re still in Europe by 2016 so we can meet!

    • 🙂 You’re welcome. Hmm well my husband just re-enlisted, so we know we’re getting at least an extra year here which would put us at leaving near the end of 2015. It remains to be seen whether he’ll be able to tack another year or two onto that. If we’re still here though I’d love to meet up 🙂

      • Aww but I don’t leave until end of next year! Oh wait, you’re originally from the US right? Well that’s where I’m heading first anyway. lol This. Will. Happen!

Umm, that wasn’t mean to be stalkerish. Just saying. 😛

  2. What an interesting idea, Amanda! I can’t wait to read more about this. I want to start making a list too!
