8 Songs to Turn Your Frown Upside Down

Today, Toni at One Chocolate Box is asking for people to share their favorite feel good songs and movies as part of The New Year Project. I’m one of those people that can be cheered up by a variety of different songs, depending on what I’m in the mood to listen to. Today, I decided to share a bunch of songs that echo the sentiments: “Hold on; it will get better; you’re not alone”. I tried to put them in an order such that they kind of flow from one to the next in a playlist if you happen to have or want to obtain these songs. (Incidentally that means I also get to add progress to the playlist goal on my 101 in 1001). Unfortunately #4 isn’t available yet to purchase, but I hope it will be soon.

1. Hold On~Good Charlotte
The song starts at :30 if you don’t want to watch the intro (which isn’t part of the original song).

2. Steh auf wenn du am boden bist (Stand up When You’re on the Ground)~Die Toten Hosen
If you don’t understand German, Die Toten Hosen also have an English version of this song. Of course, I think it sounds better in German. If you like Die Toten Hosen, check out this post in which I share several of their other songs.

3. Hands~Jewel

4.You’re Not the Only One~Joseph Gordon Levitt and Several HitRECorders
I love LOVE this new song which was collaboratively created on HitRECord (which I have mentioned a few times on here) and features 66 videos, one image, one text, and 79 audio records from 934 contributors. It was included in the first episode of HitRECord on TV. If you go to the HitRECord and click on the EP 1 You’re Not the Only One icon to the far right and click on the images, text, and audio icons, you can see the contributions that went into it.

5. Float On~Modest Mouse

6. Alles kann besser werden (Everything Can Get Better)~Xaviar Naidoo
This song is mostly in German, but part of it is in English. If you open this video in YouTube, there’s an English translation of the song.

7. Odd One~Sick Puppies
The best version of this song I could find comes with a bonus song (“My World”) before it. The one I listed starts at about 5:50. I saw these guys twice in concert when I lived in Orlando and they were much better than this video comes across.

8. Hold On~Green Day
Green Day is another band I saw while I lived in Florida, and it was awesome. I’ve listened to them off and on since Jr. High and still enjoy them, and there are many of their songs that can make me feel better depending on the situation. This actually isn’t necessarily up there in my favorites of their songs, but it fits well with the list, I think, and makes a good bookend with the first song. A song duo that doesn’t quite fit with this list but never fails to make me smile is King for a Day/Shout. Fair warning, Billy Joe shows his bare rear end a couple of times in the linked video.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this list of “cheer up” songs, and if you’re down I hope you at least feel a little bit better. If you have some feel good songs or movies you want to share, head over to One Chocolate Box and add your post to the link up.

  1. Man, seriously, JGL… I could not stand him when I was little and watching Third Rock, I thought he looked stupid with the hair. And now…! He sings, he acts, he dances… please tell me he writes terrible poetry and is actually a jackass in real life. Nobody can be that perfect! 😛

    • Haha yeah. I never really got into Third Rock but I remember the hair. I’m not sure what his poetry is like if he writes it, and I haven’t met him in person, but from the videos I’ve seen of HitRECorders who have met him, it seems like he’s a nice guy in real life also.

  2. Float On is one of my favorite songs ever! 🙂 And I also love Green Day, their concerts are fantastic!

    • It’s a great pick-me-up song :). Me too. I have only seen one of their concerts so far, but it was AWESOME. (I actually put a picture from the one I went to in my post from today on music.)

  3. Amazing what music can do 🙂 Found you on military site, I am Air Force wife. Would love you to check out my blog & follow if you like it. Can’t wait to hear more from you 🙂
